MASKS IN THE WILD:
A public health project that provides aid to artists who want to make and distribute free masks
Are you an NYC-based artist interested in making masks? Apply to be selected for a stipend to create personal protective equipment (PPE).
About This Project
Masks in the Wild is a public health project aimed at removing the fear and stigma surrounding the “new normal” of mandatory mask-wearing in public. Our goal is twofold; to provide as many New Yorkers with clean, safe, artist-made masks and to distribute free DIY mask-making resources to those that are willing and able to create them. By utilizing masks as a canvas, artists can physically connect with the public in a safe and essential way. Art is essential in helping uplift the human spirit.
If you or your company are interested in joining the project as a sponsor or partner please contact email@example.com. We are actively seeking additional sponsorship for artist grants, material donations, and corporate partners who are willing to sponsor costs for safe distribution. This will allow us to expand the reach of the project across the five boroughs and beyond.
Masks In the Wild is made possible by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund

Other Ways You Can Support The Project
If making masks isn’t your jam, you can still support this initiative and contribute by supporting NYC's creative community. We have set up a GoFundMe page, any financial contribution will go directly to supporting artists who have elected to make masks.
Wallplay’s passion is to inspire people where they walk. New York’s streets have always been a stage for magic moments. In the wake of COVID-19 and the subsequent temporary closing of our 14 physical locations, we have shifted our focus to supporting the creative community through #masksinthewild. This public health art project aims to spark joy and remove fear around wearing masks. We can protect our neighbors by wearing, creating, and gifting masks to frontline workers, friends, and strangers alike. By utilizing masks as a canvas, artists can physically connect with the public in a safe and essential way. Art is essential in helping uplift the human spirit. We need to celebrate and connect with the vital energy that art creates now more than ever. We hope these DIY and artist-made masks will help people who wear them connect, heart to heart, while safely remaining 6 feet apart.
